Android apps for Windows 11 are now available to Insiders in the Dev Channel

Microsoft and Android announced today that apps built for Windows 10 will now work on devices running the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. This is just one step in a long series of moves that Microsoft has made to court developers, including building an open-source .NET Core runtime for mobile development as well as opening up its Azure cloud platform to ARM processors.

The creators of Windows 10 have just released an early preview for a new, experimental platform that will allow Android apps to run on the desktop. This is made possible with Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Kodi and its ability to install compiled versions of Android apps inside Windows. The only drawback: this version isn’t available in public yet – but it could be if it works well enough!

You may recall that Microsoft included the Windows Subsystem for Android to Windows 11 and only a small number of Insiders were given access to testing.

Insiders from the United States were among the first to test this fantastic combination, but that is about to change.

The Redmond-based software firm has revealed that Dev Channel Windows Insiders will be able to try out Android applications on Windows 11.

The Dev Channel for Windows Subsystem for Android is now available.

This important news comes after the functionality was first made available to Windows Insiders using PCs in the Beta Channel a few weeks ago.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that Android applications are now accessible for testing by Dev Channel Windows Insiders.

Members of the community adjusted things to make Android applications work on the Dev Channel, too, when this much-requested integration first arrived for Beta Channel Insiders only.

So it was only a matter of time until Microsoft provided a legitimate mechanism for them to test Android applications on Windows 11.

You must first install the Windows Subsystem for Android from the Microsoft Store in order to activate this new integration and begin running Android applications.

However, bear in mind that, although this is fantastic news for Dev Channel Insiders, Android applications on Windows 11 are still restricted.

With Android applications now accessible in two channels of the Windows Insider Program, it seems that the stable version of the new operating system isn’t far away.

And, given the enormous popularity of this new connection, we’re certain that additional programs will be made accessible for Windows 11 in the coming months.

It’s also crucial to understand how to sideload PKs on Microsoft’s new operating system, so double-check your facts before proceeding.

Also, keep in mind that you can run the Google Play Store on Windows 11, but the procedure is not for the faint of heart, so proceed with caution.

If you’re a Dev Channel Insider who’s already tested the Android app integration, let us know how it went in the comments section below.
